Statement of Faith

Statement #1 Click on subscripts to display scriptural support

There is one God,1 who is infinitely perfect,2 existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 3

Statement #2

Jesus Christ is true God and true man. 4   He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. 5   He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice,  and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.   He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures. 6   He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest. 7   He will come again to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace. 8

Statement #3

The Holy Spirit is a divine Person, sent to indwell, 9  guide, teach, and empower the believer, and to convince the world of sin,  of righteousness, and of judgment. 10

Statement #4

The Old and New Testaments, inerrant as originally given, were verbally inspired  by God and are a complete revelation of His will for the salvation of people.   They constitute the divine and only rule of Christian faith and practice. 11

Statement #5

Humankind, originally created in the image and likeness of God, 12  fell through disobedience, incurring thereby both physical and spiritual death.   All people are born with a sinful nature, are separated from the life of God,  and can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ. 13   The destiny of the impenitent and unbelieving is existence forever in  conscious torment, but that of the believer is everlasting joy and bliss. 14

Statement #6

Salvation has been provided only through Jesus Christ.  Those who repent and believe in Him are united with Christ through the Holy Spirit and are thereby regenerated (born again), justified, sanctified and granted the gift of eternal life as adopted children of God. 15

Statement #7

It is the will of God that in union with Christ each believer should be sanctified  thoroughly16  thereby being separated from sin and the world and fully dedicated to God,  receiving power for holy living and sacrificial and effective service toward the  completion of Christ's commission. 17   This is accomplished through being filled with the Holy Spirit which is both a  distinct event and progressive experience in the life of the believer. 18

Statement #8

Provision is made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing  of the mortal body.  Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil as taught in the Scriptures are privileges for the Church in this present age. 19

Statement #9

The universal Church, of which Christ is the Head, consists of all those who  believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, regenerated  by the Holy Spirit, and commissioned by Christ to go into all the world as a  witness, preaching the Gospel to all nations. 20   The local church, the visible expression of the universal Church, is a body  of believers in Christ who are joined together to worship God, to observe  the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper, to pray, to be edified through  the Word of God, to fellowship, and to testify in word and deed to the good  news of salvation both locally and globally.  The local church enters  into relationships with other like-minded churches for accountability, encouragement, and mission.21

Statement #10

There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life; 22 for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment. 23

Statement #11

The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent and will be personal and visible.24   As the believer's blessed hope, this vital truth is an incentive for holy living and sacrificial service toward the completion of Christ's commission. 25

End Notes

1. Isaiah 44:6

"This is what the LORD says-- Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.

    Isaiah 45:5-6

I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.  I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me.  I am the LORD, and there is no other.

2. Matthew 5:48

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

    Deuteronomy 32:4

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.  A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.

3. Matthew 3:16-17

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.  At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.   And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."

    Matthew 28:19

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

4.  Philippians 2:6-11

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.   And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!   Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

    Hebrews 2:14-18

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil-- and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.   For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants.   For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

    Colossians 2:9

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,

5.  Matthew 1:18

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

    Luke 1:35

The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

6. 1 Corinthians 15:3-5

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

    1 John 2:2;

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

    Acts 13:39

Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

7. Hebrews 4:14-15;

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.   For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.

    Hebrews 9:24-28

For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence.   Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.   Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world.  But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.   Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

8. Matthew 25:31-34

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.   All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.   He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.   "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

"Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky?  This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

9. John 14:16-17

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

10. John 16:7-11

But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away.  Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.   When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

    1 Corinthians 2:10-12

but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.  The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.   For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him?  In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.   We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

11. 2 Timothy 3:16

    2 Peter 1:20-21

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.   For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

14. Matthew 25:41-46

"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.  For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'   "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'   "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'   "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

    2 Thessalonians 1:7-10

and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well.  This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.   He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.   They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed.  This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

15. Titus 3:5-7

he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.  He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

    Acts 2:38

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

    John 1:12

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--

18. Romans 12:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship.   Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

    Galatians 5:16-25

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.   For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature.  They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.   But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.   The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.  I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.   But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.   Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.   Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

19. Matthew 8:16-17

When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.   This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."

    James 5:13-16

Is any one of you in trouble?  He should pray.  Is anyone happy?  Let him sing songs of praise.   Is any one of you sick?  He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.   And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up.  If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

20. Ephesians 3:6-12

This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.   I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power.   Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.   His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.   In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

    Ephesians 1:22-23

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

21. Acts 2:41-47; Acts 15

Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.   They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.   Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.   All the believers were together and had everything in common.   Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.   Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.  They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.  And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Hebrews 10:25

Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

    Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

    Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

   Acts 11:19-30

Now those who had been scattered by the persecution in connection with Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, telling the message only to Jews.   Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus.   The Lord's hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.   News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.   When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.   He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.   Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch.  So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people.  The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.   During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.   One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world.  (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)   The disciples, each according to his ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea.   This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

22. 1 Corinthians 15:20-23

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.   For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.   For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.   We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.   According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.   For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.   After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And so we will be with the Lord forever.
